I got called for another interview.
About a month ago, I got called in at the same hospital for an ER position and, since then, I haven’t heard back until today. This time, I’m being called in for an NICU post, which I’ve already stressed isn’t my first choice, but I’m not really going to ream down any opportunity that comes my way.
What did manage to irk me though, was my parents (shocker, I know). Now, I get that they’re a little concerned about my job status. But, while I take the dry spell as a natural (albeit unwanted) process with the economy sucking massive dick, my parents seem to perceive it as me being doomed to eternal unemployed damnation [insert booming thunderclap and Jafar-like cackling here].
So, they do whatever interfering, embarrassing parents do: they call the people who are trying to help me get a job and ask for status updates. Like a fuckin report card.
Because, you know, it’s not enough to hassle me at every possible opportunity and ask me for updates about my job status even though there aren’t any, nooooooooo~. Their thinking lies along the lines of, “Our daughter hasn’t gotten a job within our timeline so clearly she needs our help so let’s ask for help on her behalf!!” which inevitably comes off as though I have no backbone whatsoever and need mommy and daddy to do things for me.
It’s not only embarrassing, it’s embarrassing because my frickin’ parents are the ones doing the interfering. Because getting a job is hard enough that now my employers get to be annoyed by the senility of my persistent parents who don’t understand the concept of “back the fuck off.”
