It was a wonderful, life-changing love that shook me awake, the kind that literally made my heart jump just at the sight of him and be so grateful that he came into my life. The fact that breaking up with him shattered my heart to a bazillion pieces wasn't new (I get really attached to the men I date).
"Love is your happiness depending on the happiness of someone else."
The fact that it brings a genuine smile to my face that he can find his happiness in another person that isn't me, speaks volumes. I think I did love him the best/most/only. More often than not, I look back at my exes thinking, "God, I hope he regrets letting me go for the rest of his life."
...I never think so with him. And it astounds me to think it, but I've come to understand that you love someone without the expectation of them loving you back, and just because someone doesn't love you as strongly or as much as they did once upon a time, doesn't mean that your feelings have to fade too.
So I think I loved him. Maybe I still do. And I'm okay with that...and maybe that alone proves that I do.
