When a lady at Victoria's Secret told me that I was a 34DD about four years ago, I was devastated.
You'd think every girl with low self-esteem would appreciate such a ... generous bosom. And I did, really, I was grateful for having breasts when just about every other Asian I knew who hadn't given birth to multiple children usually have boobs the shape of the broad side of a barn.
But it was definitely a bit of a problem when my bras were literally bigger than my face. Low self-esteem couldn't really win against the tiny idea that I might've been a bit of a freak. So today when yet another sales person informed me that I was down to a 32C my little Asian heart did a slight leap of joy: enough boobage to be cool, but not so freakish that my bra cups could literally engulf my face.
Later on, I sat with Mila and explained to her friend, Janie*, who is awesomely Vietnamese and a huge workout buff, that I'd managed to drop quite a few pounds (including boob fat) over the past two and a half years (not-so-coincidentally starting when I began nursing school) out of consistently going to the gym and running stadiums at my university. Janie responded enthusiastically about working out and running together and we both insisted that Mila should join us once she returns from her mission trip.
Just now, I faced Clarice on Ricky's couch and spoke excitedly about the Disney Princess Half-Marathon, where you can run in a tutu and tiara. We both agreed that it was a brilliant idea...until we realized that the price to simply register was $150.
To run in a tutu and a plastic crown?? Puh-lease. I could do totally do that for free in public.
...Granted, I'm likely to be arrested for public indecency and evaluated for a mental illness, but I would have to pay a registration fee that cost unnecessarily high and would require me to drive four hours away.
In short, I'd really like to run a marathon. Just...without paying out the freakin' whazoo.
*Yay a new thinly-veiled friend!
