Today, I spoke to Shay today for the first time in over a month.
Considering that years ago we barely went through a week without hearing from each other, this was a distressing fact to face indeed.
Unlike Nicky and me, Shay's in grad school and engaged, which was the biggest reason Nicky and I contacted her, after realizing that Shay and her fiance have been engaged for a year now and no wedding plans have been made (Nicky was very upset at the prospect of missing out on the dress shopping experience). Fact is, Shay and her fiance are still college students who don't have actual careers to fund their wedding so, suffice to say that plans for the ceremony are on hold until at least one of them graduates. That being said, the wedding came up during my conversation with Nicky and we made the impromptu decision to contact the "God" portion of our beloved Trinity.
What followed was a long conversation covering all topics of our lives, school, work, and the occasional conspiracy theory that I couldn't follow or muster enthusiasm for since, a conspiracy by definition is something that hasn't been proven to be fact. And while I admit there was a point when I stopped listening since I'm not really knowledgeable about things like binary stars and how our sun's twin star is coming closer to our solar system, thus placing our planet nearer and nearer to certain doom (thus "explaining" the natural disasters currently happening), it was still a...lively conversation to have with my wives.
Wives, I've realized, that I've had for 11 years.
11 years! That's half my lifetime! I haven't had a hairstyle that's lasted that long!!
Nicky asked me to count up the years we've all known each other and I genuinely shocked myself to keep counting past 10. How crazy is is that my longest relationship is with 2 heterosexual women, one of whom is engaged and the other who supposedly engages in polymorous orgies (at least according to her very suspicious daddy).
I've said before that we've drifted on our own ways over the years, and I've felt the distance grow when Shay and Nicky moved in together in college while I stayed in the dorms, even more so since Shay is in another city while my and Nicky's schedule makes it near impossible for us to meet up on most weeks. So it was nice (if not totally followable) to catch up with the girls who've been with me through literally every stage of puberty I can think of...today included.
