I’m employed.
4 months after graduating, and 2 since getting my license, I have a job in a densely-employed city.
Considering that I’ve never had a job in my entire life, this is a huge win for me. Not only do I finally have some semblance of financial stability of my own in the future, but I finally have the validation that I’m a contributing and productive member of society. Aside from calculating my income (which alone makes me want to jump up and down in joy) perhaps the biggest thought in my head that I confessed to Mina on the phone was: “I can finally get presents for my family for Christmas.”
While I realize that the holiday is another 11 months away and I’ve only just put away the decorations yesterday, it’s still a huge big for me. I’ve always wanted to participate in the holiday and get my family gifts for other occasions and birthdays and anniversaries; and now I finally can. I fully recognize the hypocrisy of this statement versus the last update I placed so, once again, I’ll maintain: my family might be full of annoying nutjobs, but I do love them (even if I don’t always like them).
That being said, getting on the phone and talking to Mina, who had her own fabulous success story to share with me, was just a joy in itself. We spoke for a while, alternatively squealing in anticipation of our futures and continually congratulating each other for our achievements.
In between our excited chatter, I couldn’t help the pure joy the crept into me in realizing that things were finally picking up. After having such an up-and-down year in 2010, this one event really helps me believe in the good things to come with this New Year.
